Kilpisjärvi skiing Review

Kilpisjärvi skiing Review tells the story of the many fantastic opportunities there are for the various types of skiing, whether it is cross country skiing, backcountry skiing or telemark style skiing in the backcountry of the Lapland.  The location of this high mountain plateau lake town named kilpijärvi is in the far North West arm of Finland, at the border of Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The waters of the kilpis-lake meet all three of the above countries, the East of the kilpi-lake is Finland, and on the West side of the kilpis-lake is Sweden and upstream of the kilpis-lake is Norway. The kilpis-lake altitude is some 473 meters above the sea level. The exact location of the kilpis-lake is about 50 km south from the Norway town of Skibothn, and 150 km from Norway Tromssa. 280 North West of Kittilä airports, and some 429 km North West from the town of Rovaniemi.  Kilpisjärvi (Kilpis-lake) is great for the telemark skiers because of the long winter season; the reason for the cold climate is twofold. The far north proximity, parallel line, the coordinates being: 69°02′57″ North. 20°47′40″East.

Backcountry skiing at kilpis-lake

Kilpis-lake environment offers great backcountry skiing opportunities with the rolling hills of the tundra, there are vast open areas where to ski using backcountry skies. The access to these areas can be made by using the cross country ski tracks to initially get out of the town area or to ski some distance on the frozen kilpis-lake, and then to go backcountry when the landscape look suitable for the kind of experience one is after.  The daily climate conditions and the time of the season also can determine where and when to go, and how long for.  The spring season is most likely to be the most predictable over autumn and winter seasons. Caution must always be taken, because it is at relatively high altitude, 500-1000 meters, and the weather can change dramatically from one day to the next. Day one may be a brilliant calm bluebird, the next morning may be a snow blizzard with no visibility to navigate from the environment, the weather does change from one day to the next, even in the spring season the clear sunny days are followed by clouds, snow falls and winds.

Kilpisjärvi skiing Review for the first time visitors

Kilpisjärvi skiing Review communicates the information about kilpis-lake with pictures from the location, video footage, audio on video and text articles like the one you are reading here. So do watch the videos, there are currently at least 2 of them with content from the kilpisjärvi, like the Kilpisjärvi Holiday Destination video. There is also a picture gallery with picture images from the kilpis-lake, you can see the images from this link at Arctic Finland holiday destination.

The cross country ski trails loops are several, there is one that goes on the frozen kilpis-lake to the three border crossing point, from the kilpis hotel it is 38 km two ways.  The other one is around the Saana tundra, heading east from the town uphill to get around the Saana tundra and head north to get around it.  The total distance around Saana is approx 20 km from memory.  The return back to the town is done skiing south on the frozen kilpis-lake for about 5-7 km distance. The other ski trail that I have never been on is the one that goes all the way to the Halti tundra, it is a distance of some 50 km away. It is not a groomed trail, but rather a snowmobile trail that gets also used by the fat bikes. (push bikes with fat tyres). The Halti tundra is the highest point in Finland, at 1365 meters above the sea level.
